CU Student Smokes Weed With Bible Pages; Speaks In Tongues For 3 Weeks

We havereceived unconfirmed reports coming out of Covenant University, Ota, which seem to indicate that a 300 level student of the university is currently under medical observation, after he began to speak in tongues non-stop, just after he allegedly used pages of his bible to smoke marijuana.

The Reports stated that the student (name withheld) was found behind the school library, blabbing some unknown languages, with burned pages from a torn bible scattered around.

He was initially slated for severe punishment from the school’s disciplinary committee, but their anger quickly turned to shock and alarm when the student wouldn’t stop rambling in the unknown language.

At this point he was then taken to the medical center, where the situation has so far shown no signs of improvement.

According to the school students who are in for their summer program, they said it has been 3 weeks since the student was found, and he has been placed under close observation to see if this trance will stop, and if there are any revelations from the student when it does in fact end.

More as this develops.

HILARIOUS: These 5 photos prove that Nigerians don’t know how to kiss

*Actor Alex Ekubo And  Ebube Nwagbo

It has been frequently stated that most Nigerians don’t know how to kiss and this is actually starting to seem like the case.

The delicate art of kissing might require passion but only a little part of the lip is expected to be used.

Seeing the kind of lip-locking that goes on in the country has left us traumatized and these are the 5 photo which take the cake in our books.

PHOTOS: Pastors Wife Meagan Good Reveals Why She Likes Exp*sing Her Body — See Her Flaunting Her B**BS In These H*T Pix

Pastor Devon Franklin’s wife, Hollywood actress, Meagan Good has been making critics angry these last couple of months with her risque fashion choices.

Her husband is a Seventh Day Adventist pastor (whose day job is a Sony Pictures Exec), which have made critics to ask her to tune down her high end taste in clothes.
But in a recent interview with popular media outlet Rolling Stone, Meagan has said she will never cover up to conform to other peoples standards of what she should look like.

She told RS: I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with being sexy. God created our bodies as women.

He created us to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be powerful, to be fearless — to be amazing. I do respect and understand the fact that when you come into the sanctuary, you need to be dressed appropriately because you are not the star — Jesus is the star.

That I agree with 100 percent. But I feel like religion can get very judgmental and a lot of people don’t approach you with love. I try to be conscious of the responsibility I have as a Christian, but if I did everything everyone told me to do or tried to please everyone, I couldn’t have my hair a particular way, I couldn’t wear certain clothes, I couldn’t play certain characters, I can’t hang out with certain people, can’t wear a certain amount of makeup — and you can’t let people run your life.

You have to look to God. People will fall in line.

PHOTOS: Come And Meet The Enugu Pastor Who Impregnated Over 20 Women Because “God Told Him To”

The Police in Enugu State have arrested one Timothy Ngwu, the General Overseer of Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity, located at Ihe/Owerre, Nsukka in Enugu State. Before his arrest on Friday, the self acclaimed Pastor, who said he was obeying God’s command, has put no less than 20 members of his church in a family way.

According to DailyPost ,the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, disclosed that

“the pastor claims to be obeying prophetic/spiritual injunction to do the will of God, which is to impregnate any one chosen and revealed by the Holy Spirit, irrespective of whether the woman is married or not. When the woman is delivered of the baby, the child remains in the ministry with the mother for life”

Vineyard Ministry of the Holy Trinity, located at Umudikwere, Ihe/Owere Nsukka in Enugu was not known until DSP Gloria Udoka and her operatives from the Anti Child Trafficking unit of the state criminal and investigation department, stormed the place based on the complaint they received from wife of the Pastor, Veronica Ngwu, bordering on sexual abuse of people in the ministry, which has brought about indiscriminate pregnancy among married and single women in the ministry.According to Veronica, her husband used to be a well known catechist in Nsukka Catholic. Some of the members’ wives are now living with him after he impregnated all of them”

It was further disclosed that while acting under the same alleged will of God, the Pastor got his wife’s niece pregnant..

Reacting to the allegations against him, the General Overseer stated that he has about five wives with thirteen children, apart from other concubines, who came as a result of the prophetic will of God.He claimed that he does not do anything with any married woman until full consent and agreement is reached between him and the husband in line with the directives of the holy Spirit.

Two of the women, who had left their husband and are now living with the General Overseer, Calista Omeje, and Assumpta Odo confirmed that they left their husband and went to the General Overseer based on the prophetic injunction to do the will of God.

Calista revealed that she is married to her husband with ten children, and that she was impregnated by Timothy, though the baby later died. She further disclosed that she also gave her daughter out to the General Overseer to be impregnated in fulfillment of will of God.

Assumpta Odo also confirmed the development, pointing out that she is also married with eight children and that the pastor impregnated her as well as her daughter.

Alaba Lagos Businessman Turned Drug Dealer Arrested By NDLEA

A popular electronic seller at Alaba market in
Lagos has been arrested for illegal drug
exportation.

The man pictured above is currently under
investigation in connection with exportation of
450 g of methamphetamine to Malaysia,
Nigeria’s anti-drug trafficking agency said on
Wednesday.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,
said the suspect, Olewunne Chibuzor
Darlington, claimed he invested N900,000 in
drug trafficking with the hope that he would
reap N5 million.

Darlington was arrested by the NDLEA officers
at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport
in Lagos.

NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, Hamza
Umar said Darlington was found to have
ingested narcotics.

“The scanning machine revealed that the
suspect ingested drugs during screening of
passengers on an Ethiopian Airline flight. He
was on his way to Malaysia but during
observation, he excreted 450 grammes of
substance that tested positive to
methamphetamine,” Umar said.

NDLEA quoted the suspect as saying in his
confessional statement: “They told me that I
can make five million naira profit if I invest
nine hundred thousand naira. It was a trial
business for me because it is my first time. I
also did it out of my financial predicament. I
am from a poor family and the eldest”.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency,
Ahmadu Giade while commenting on the arrest
called for stiffer punishment for drug
traffickers.

“No doubt, stiffer punishment will help in
reducing cases of drug production and
trafficking. We shall prevent drug traffickers
from using the country as a transit point for
drug trafficking,” “It is sad that a businessman
will prefer to invest in criminality when there
are countless legitimate businesses” – said Giade

ASUU Strike 2013 Called Off: Strike Suspended By Nigerian Lecturers

The 5-month old strike that has paralyzed the
higher education system in the country is just
about to be suspended.

Hours after Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC came
in to resolve the differences between the
Federal Government and the striking lecturers,
a deal has been reached.
ASUU President made this known yesterday in
Abuja.

Here is what Dr Fagge said while thanking all
the parties involved in bringing the prolonged
strike to an end.

“I really want to thank all of us that are
gathered here for ensuring that we came this
far, I think it’s important to first acknowledge
the intervention of Mr President because he
was the one that made it possible to ensure
that we came this far.

“Honourable minister, if what we had agreed
on at that 13 hours meeting had been
judiciously documented and our members were
convinced that it would be implemented, we
wouldn’t have wasted this time because we
have a lot of respect for the office of Mr
President.

“Our members are intellectuals and it’s simply
because over the years particularly since the
signing of the 2009 Agreement, we have been
pursing government to get that agreement
implemented we only succeeded in getting
implemented a portion of that agreement and
here we are over four years, but I think it’s
never too late.

“If we ever think that not placing high
premium on our university education out of
the doldrums, I want to assure all of us that we
will be deceiving ourselves because other
countries that are ahead have made sure that
their universities are making cutting edge
research” Dr. Fagge said.

We expect ASUU to make an official
announcement about the suspension any
moment from now.

Nelson Mandela’s Corpse Arrives Pretoria For Lying In State

Nelson Mandela’s dead body has been
transferred to the government seat in Pretoria,
South Africa in preparation for his burial
ceremony on Sunday.

Mandela’s corpse will lie in state in Pretoria for
3 days ahead of the funeral service.

Thousands of people lined the streets on
Wednesday as Nelson Mandela’s funeral
cortege proceeded through the streets of
Pretoria from 1 Military Hospital to the Union
Buildings, the seat of the South African
government.

The coffin is to be moved back and forth from
the hospital to the Union Buildings every day
for the next three days, and the casket with
Mandela’s body will be on display for the public
to pay its respects at stipulated times.

The Union Buildings are where Mandela was
inaugurated as the country’s first black
president in 1994 after the end of South
Africa’s apartheid system, which segregated
whites and blacks under white-minority rule.

The lying-in-state comes after a memorial
service in Soweto’s World Cup Stadium on
Tuesday in which US President Barack Obama
was among those to pay tribute to the life and
legacy of Mandela.

On Friday evening, his body will be flown to
Eastern Cape province for a traditional service
on Saturday. On Sunday, there will be a state
funeral and burial at Mandela’s ancestral village
of Qunu.

Mandela’s death last Thursday at the age of 95
has sparked mourning and expressions of grief
both in South Africa itself and in the
international community, where he was widely
seen as an icon of racial reconciliation and a
moral authority.

ASUU Strike 2013 Latest News: NLC Writes President Jonathan

The ongoing battle between ASUU officials and
the Federal Government of Nigeria has
intensified after 13 hours of resolution meeting
proved abortive.

This has forced ASUU to call the attention of
the Nigeria Labour Congress for intervention.

This was disclosed in a press briefing by a
representative of NLC on Monday.

NLC’s acting Secretary General, Mr Chris Uyot
told NAN in Abuja yesterday that an official
letter has been sent President Jonathan in
Abuja.

“The leadership of NLC has written a letter to
the Presidency seeking leave to intervene in
the crisis which is now in its sixth month.

“We have sent a letter to the presidency
today, December 9. We want to intervene in
this matter.

“The turn of events is causing a lot of
disaffection which can easily be resolved, that
is if the government is willing to talk about it,”
Uyot told newsmen.

I feel for these students. How long will the
Federal Government continue to mess up the
educational system of this great country.

Five months at home doing nothing is just too
much.

Grandfather Raped Primary School Student In Akure; Alhaji Kayode Ganiyu Arrested

Alhaji Kayode Ganiyu, a 71-year-old grandpa is
currently cooling in police detention after he
allegedly raped a primary school student
identified as Taye.
The incident happened at Ayetoru Street in
Oba Ile area of Akure, Ondo State yesterday.

According to source who initially witnessed the
revelation of the rape case, the 7-year-old girl
was returning from school when she was lured
by the old man with N10 into his cluttered
private one room apartment deceitfully telling
her he wanted her to purchase sachet water for
him.

The loud cry of the poor little girl,
SaharaReporters learns attracted the attention
of passerbys who immediately inquired into
the incidence.

Narrating her ordeal, the little Taye said she
was returning from school and stopped at a
nearby well opposite Mr. Ganiyu’s house in
order to fetch water and drink but decided
against it because the well water was too dirty.

She alleged that ‘Alhaji’ as he is popularly
known in the area, was watching her, as she
meant to leave Mr. Ganiyu called her into his
dingy apartment to get money to purchase
water, however, soon as she walked into the
room, he forced her onto his bed, covered her
mouth and raped her repeatedly
‘’I was thirsty and coming back from school
inside the hot sun when Alhaji waved and
called me to come and collect money for pure
water. I sat down, and he searched through his
cloth and brought out N10. I never knew he had
closed his door. He pushed me onto the bed,
covered my mouth with his hand and did it’’,
she narrated and cried profusely.

The little schoolgirl explained that the old man
raped her twice. ‘’I was crying painfully when
he was raping me, but he would not listen”.

She also said she bled continuously after the
incidence while Alhaji cleaned her up with a
‘rag’ and threatened her with a dane gun if she
tells anyone.

Confirming the bad news, Mrs. Mary Michael,
the mother of the victim, said they she was
inside the room cleaning when a neighbor
broke in with a ‘thunderous voice’ to report
the ugly incidence.

“We were inside the house when
some people
shouted my name and said I should come and
see what has happened to my daughter”.

Stressing further, she said her daughter was
weeping that one Alhaji called her and carried
her inside the house.

Mrs. Mary revealed that she took her daughter
to the hospital where a doctor disclosed that
her daughter was truly raped.

However, Mr. Ganiyu tried denying the
allegations. While denying the allegation, the
old man who managed to talk said he did not
have carnal knowledge of the little girl.

“They are lying. I didn’t rape her,” He said
softly as if looking for pity.

He said the little girl only approached him to
buy her biscuit which he did by giving her
money.

“I only gave her money to buy biscuit for
herself when she complained that she is
hungry”.

But when asked by our correspondent how
much he gave her, the old man refused to talk
and pretended to be sick.
Many residents who spoke on the incidence
accused him of being a serial rapist.

They
alleged that the old man who also engages in
local voodoo practices reported claims that his
“gods” are pleased when he rapes little virgins.

SaharaReporters gathered that the old man,
who is a hunter, had been living on the street
for close to 10 years
Meanwhile, officers of the Nigeria Security and
Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State
command already arrested Mr. Ganiyu.

The spokesman of the command, Mr Kayode

Nelson Mandela’s Quotes: Most Famous Inspirational Words Of Wisdom By Late SA President

Though he is gone, his legacy lives on.

Below are some collection of freedom quotes by Nelson Mandela.

These inspirational quotes were written during his days as a freedom fighter.

Nelson Mandela’s Quote On Racism
This was released as his 1st court statement back in 1962.

“I hate race discrimination most intensely and in all its manifestations. I have fought it all
during my life; I fight it now, and will do so until the end of my days. Even although I now happen to be tried by one whose opinion I hold
in high esteem, I detest most violently the set-up that surrounds me here. It makes me feel that I am a black man in a white man’s court. This should not be”

Nelson Mandela’s Anti-Apartheid Quotes
Written as a defence statement during his treason trial back in 1961

“We are not anti-white, we are against white supremacy … we have condemned racialism no matter by whom it is professed. ”

Written during his Rally in Durban on Feb 25, 1990

“In Natal, apartheid is a deadly cancer in our midst, setting house against house, and eating away at the precious ties that bound us together. This strife among ourselves wastes our energy and destroys our unity. My message
to those of you involved in this battle of brother against brother is this: take your guns, your knives, and your pangas, and throw them
into the sea! Close down the death factories. End this war now! –

Mandela on Racial Equality & Human Rights
Taken from his defence statement during the Rivonia trial in 1964

“I have fought against white domination, and I
have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free
society in which all persons will live together in harmony with equal opportunities. It is an ideal
which I hope to live for, and to see realised.
But my Lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”-

Mandela’s Quote on Service To Humanity
Written on the 1st day of his release in Cape Town back in 1990.

“I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the people. Your
tireless and heroic sacrifices have made it possible for me to be here today. I therefore place the remaining years of my life in your
hands.”

Inaugural Address, Pretoria 9 May 1994.

“Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another and suffer the
indignity of being the skunk of the world”

Victory Speech in 1994

“I watched, along with all of you, as the tens of thousands of our people stood patiently in long queues for many hours. Some sleeping on the
open ground overnight waiting to cast this momentous vote. ”

“This is one of the most important moments in the life of our country. I stand here before you filled with deep pride and joy: — pride in the
ordinary, humble people of this country. You have shown such a calm, patient determination
to reclaim this country as your own, – and joy that we can loudly proclaim from the rooftops
— free at last! ”

Freedom Fighter
“I was called a terrorist yesterday, but when I came out of jail, many people embraced me, including my enemies, and that is what I
normally tell other people who say those who are struggling for liberation in their country are
terrorists. I tell them that I was also a terrorist yesterday, but, today, I am admired by the very people who said I was one.” – Larry King
Live, 16 May 2000

South Africa
“You may succeed in delaying, but never in preventing the transition of South Africa to a democracy. – Long Walk to Freedom”

“The authorities liked to say that we received a balanced diet; it was indeed balanced —
between the unpalatable and the inedible. –
Long Walk to Freedom.”

“South Africans have no concept of time and this is also why we can’t solve poverty and social problems… It’s now 10 years since the fall of the Apartheid government and we
cannot blame Apartheid for being tardy.”

Nelson Mandela’s Quotes On Freedom
“I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret
that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of
the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom
comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.”

“I always knew that someday I would once again feel the grass under my feet and walk in the sunshine as a free man. – Long Walk to
Freedom””When I walked out of prison, that
was my mission, to liberate the oppressed and the oppressor both”

“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” – Long Walk
to Freedom.”

“There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again
before we reach the mountaintop of our desires. “- Long Walk to Freedom

Heroic Sacrifices
“We dedicate this day to all the heroes and heroines in this country and the rest of the world who sacrificed in many ways and surrendered their lives so that we could be free.

“No one truly knows a nation until one has been inside its jails.

Nelson Mandela’s Quotes On Leadership
“Lead from the back – and let others believe they are in front.”

“A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens but its lowest ones.”

Nelson Mandela’s Quotes On Africa
“We owe it to all the peoples of the sub- continent to ensure that they see in us, not merely good leaders waxing lyrical about development, but as the front commanders in
the blast furnaces of labour, productive investments and visible change.” Southern
African Development Community (SADC) 15th
anniversary summit, Johannesburg 13
September 1995

“I am the product of Africa and her long- cherished view of rebirth that can now be realised so that all of her children may play in
the sun.” – Nelson Mandela’s final speech as
president to the South African parliament,
Cape Town 26 March 1999

Iraq War speech, 2003
“What I am condemning is that one power,
with a president [George W. Bush] who has no
foresight, who cannot think properly, is now
wanting to plunge the world into a holocaust.”
Nelson Mandela’s Quote On Hope
“I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that
comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say.
Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head
pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving
forward. There were many dark moments when
my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I
would not and could not give myself up to
despair. That way lays defeat and death.”
Nelson Mandela’s Quotes On Children
“Few things make the life of a parent more
rewarding and sweet as successful children.”
“Our children are our greatest treasure. They
are our future. Those who abuse them tear at
the fabric of our society and weaken our
nation.” – National Men‘s March, 1997

Mandela’s Quote About Life
“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. “

Nelson Mandela’s Quote On Fear
“The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – Long Walk to Freedom.

Nelson Mandela’s Quote Education
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Nelson Mandela’s Quotes On Love
“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” – Long Walk to Freedom.

“If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.”

“I write to commiserate with you, the Government and people of South Africa and the family of Dr. Nelson Mandela on the death of one of the greatest sons of Africa,” Mr. Jonathan wrote in the

He said “although it has come at the
advanced age of 95, Madiba’s death will create a huge vacuum that will be difficult to fill in our continent. He will be sorely missed by all who cherish love, peace and freedom the world over and will be eternally honoured for his immense
contribution to the dismantling of the apartheid policy, one of the world’s most obnoxious systems whose under-pining
philosophy was the degradation of man by man”.

The Nigerian leader said “Dr. Mandela served as a source of inspiration to the oppressed peoples all over the world”
adding that “in the course of his life-long epic struggle for freedom, fairness, justice,
equity and the human rights of his
oppressed people, Dr. Mandela made

indefatigable spirit which he demonstrated
throughout his life will continue to inspire present and future generations”.

He said the late former South African leader would “always be remembered and honoured by all mankind as one of its
greatest liberators, a wise, courageous and compassionate leader, and an icon of true
democracy”.

“We join you, the Mandela family, the people of South Africa and lovers of
freedom, peace, justice and equity all over the world in praying that God Almighty will
receive the Great Madiba’s soul and grant him eternal rest,” President Jonathan wrote.

Mr. Obama said “Nelson Mandela was a giant for justice and a down-to-earth
human inspiration. Many around the world were greatly influenced by his selfless
struggle for human dignity, equality and freedom. He touched our lives in deeply
personal ways. At the same time, no-one did more in our time to advance the values
and aspirations of the United Nations.
Nelson Mandela showed what is possible for our world and within each one of us – if we
believe, dream and work together for justice and humanity”.

Mr. Ki-moon said Mandela was “a source of inspiration” for the world while Mr. Cameron said with the passage of Mandela,
“a great light has gone out in the world”.

Mr. Clinton said in a statement: “Today the
world has lost one of its most important leaders and one of its finest human beings… All of us are living in a better world because of the life that Madiba lived.”

“We’ve lost one of the most influential, courageous and profoundly good human beings. I cannot fully imagine my life
without the example Nelson Mandela set.
He no longer belongs to us. He belongs to the ages.”

Former US President Mr. George W Bush said “President Mandela was one of the great forces for freedom and equality of our time. He bore his burdens with dignity and grace, and our world is better off
because of his example. This great man will be missed, but his contributions will live
on forever.”

Former US President Jimmy Carter has this
to say “The people of South Africa and human rights advocates around the world have lost a great leader. His passion for
freedom and justice created new hope for generations of oppressed people
worldwide, and because of him, South Africa is today one of the world’s leading Head of the European Commission Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso tweets: Mandela changed course of history for his people, country, continent & the world. My thoughts are with his family and people of South Africa.

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ms. Christine Lagarde said the death of the great leader was a
shock to the world.

[READ]: SEE Obasanjo’s Touching Tribute To Nelson Mandela

“In all situations, he lived nobly and died
in nobility.
Let us bear in mind that we all have the
opportunity
to act nobly in whatever position we find
ourselves,” he added.
He described Mandela’s death as a
monumental loss
to all human races and called on all to
emulate the
life and times of the great leader.
“His demise is a loss to his family who will
miss a
caring patriarch; the people of South Africa
who will
miss a guide, Africa who will miss a role
model and
the world who will miss a leader.
“When we teach our children lessons for
tomorrow,
let us remember lessons Mandela gave the
world in
forgiveness and forbearance,’’ Obasanjo
said.
Obasanjo, who eulogising Mandela, recalled
the
times when he was voted to become
South-Africa’s
post-apartheid president.
“During the first non-racial democratic
elections in
1994, I was on election observation
assignment in
South Africa and was there for his campaign
and
when he cast his vote.
“He was devoid of bitterness or anger
against
anybody except the hated apartheid
system.
“He went on to win the election and more
importantly led South Africa to the extent
that the
country was able to cast aside its apartheid
legacy
and take its place in comity of nations.
“Certain that his task was completed,
Mandela
modestly refused to seek re-election after
his first
term in office as his presidency elapsed.
“I still recall his pragmatic words when he
said to me
‘Olu, show me a place in the world where a
man of 80
years is running the affairs of his country.
“This, to me, reflects an unequalled sense
of modesty
for a man who spent 27 of the prime years
of his life
in prison for a just cause.
“Yet he still kept a calm and peaceful
disposition to
those who took away his freedom for all
those years
of his life,’’ he explained.

A woman, Zenab Agbontine, has been arrested
by men of the Edo State Police Command for
allegedly axing her husband to death after a
quarrel.

The woman was said to have used an axe to
sever her husband’s head when the latter was
asleep in their home at Ubiane Aviele village

was a farmer and that her husband was a night
guard.

She said trouble started when he brought
another woman home and asked her to leave.

Zenab, who spoke in tears while confessing
said: “He stopped me from entering his room. I
pleaded with him to forgive me because I had
problems but he refused. It was when he slept
that I entered the room with an axe and hit his
head. I don’t know what entered into me.”

Zenab said her refusal to leave made her
husband to beat her and that she retaliated
when she got hold of an object. She spoke in
tears.

Among other suspects paraded are Augustine

BREAKTHROUGH: Scientist Make Amazing Discoveries On HIV, New Treatment Possible

Scientists have recently discovered a
molecular invisibility cloak that enables HIV,
the virus causing AIDS, to hide inside cells of
the body without triggering the body’s natural
defence systems.

The new study demonstrates how ‘uncloaking’
the virus using an experimental drug triggers an
immune response that stops the virus from
replicating in cells grown in the laboratory.

The findings could help to improve existing
therapies for HIV infection and find new ways
of virus treatment.

The innate immune system is the body’s first
line of defence against infection and
incorporates an alarm system present in all
cells of the body that detects the presence of
‘foreign’ material from invading bacteria and
viruses.

When the alarm is tripped, the infected cell
begins an anti-viral programme and sends out
warning signals to alert other cells that a virus
is around.

MAIDUGURI SLAUGHTER: Survivors Recount Atrocities Of Boko Haram Attack

Maiduguri, Borno State — A number of
Maiduguri residents, survivors of and
eyewitnesses to the recent slaughter in Borno
State’s capital by suspected Boko Haram sect
members, recount their experience.
It will be recalled that on Monday, December 2,
about 300 armed terrorists invaded the city and
wreaked havoc onto military formations and
police stations.
The area accommodates hundreds of JTF (Joint
Task Force) operatives and the Divisional Police
Station in Gomari Airport Ward of the
metropolis, as well as 50 military vehicles.
Nigerian Air Force Base offices, staff quarters,
club house, five aircraft were set ablaze by the
terrorists and burnt completely. Residential
buildings, such as semi-detached bedroom flats
and offices with staff quarters newly built by
the Borno State Government at the 33 Artillery
Regiment base, were also razed by the fire.
Mallam Yakubu Gashua, who lives near the now-
destroyed 79 Composite Group, Nigerian Air
force Base (NAF), said:

“I thought my days on earth was over on that
day.

“My wife and I were in bed, and all of a sudden,
I started hearing heavy sounds of gunshots, as
if it was in my compound. We immediately
woke up and started reciting some protective
verses in the Quran.

“The gunshots became more intense with
ceaseless explosions all over the place.
“At a point I told my wife and my uncle, who
came from Gashua for a visit, that our days
have ended.

“I said, ‘Who is going to take care of my two
little children who are still writing their exams
in a boarding school in Damaturu, the Yobe
state capital?’ But thank Allah for sparing all of
us.”

Two brothers who lived opposite the NAF main
gate, a military object that was the first port
of call of the terrorists, were slain.

Their
neighbour recalls that the attackers arrived the
base around 4a.m., and called for Subhi prayers
in a nearby mosque before chanting ‘Allahu
Akbar’ [‘God is Great’].

“The terrorists entered the compound and saw
a Toyota hilux loaded with bags of beans, and
they asked my deceased neighbour to provide
the keys of the loaded vehicle to them.

“When he said the keys were with the driver
somewhere else, they immediately opened fire
on him. His brother was ambushed at his
patent medicine store around 7am a few
metres away from the NAF main gate, and was
killed.”
Another resident, who lives close to the NAF
base, narrated his own ordeal:

“When I heard a strange voice close to our
mosque, I asked myself, who are these people
calling for Subhi prayers? I peeped outside just
to see what was happening, and when I
discovered that the voice is a strange one, I
quickly went back home.

“Later, we went to the mosque and performed
our prayers with my deceased neighbours who
were killed after the prayers.

“We didn’t know that the terrorists were the
ones calling for the Subhi prayers.

“We performed our pre-dawn prayers
successfully, and, as we were about to enter
our house, we started hearing the sounds of
gunfire, explosives and bombs inside the NAF
premises. The sound of the explosives was
even shaking our houses, which now have
cracks after the multiple explosions inside the
NAF Base. In fact, I had to quickly hide myself
with my wife and two of my little children
inside an abandoned soak-away toilet in the
compound for over two hours.”
Mallam Abba Usman, is a resident of Mwaramti
village, opposite the 33 Artillery Regiments. His
place of residence was not spared by the
terrorists also, as he says, “The terrorists were
very active and brave, as they stopped and
picked dead bodies of their members.”

Residents say the tragic events in Maiduguri, a
city which had witnessed relative peace for the
past six months, calls for serious concern of
the government and the people of Borno
State.
